Come Wednesday at 5:30pm I will be Myrtle Beach bound. For those of you not familiar with the area, just picture Jersey Shore but less Italian and more redneck. I've been thinking about pitching a show to MTV called The Grand Strand: Summer in Myrtle. I KNOW it would be a hit.
When I was growing up I was lucky enough to get to go to the beach every year...since I was born. I think I've missed one Myrtle Beach summer in my adult life because I couldn't get off work. We've always gone to the Myrtle Beach area. I can remember the nights before we were going to the beach I couldn't sleep I was so built up with excitement...it was like Christmas morning. We would get up super early and take the 5 hour drive. My mom used to say that if the roads started getting flatter and you could see the tobacco plants on the sides of the roads then that's how you know you're getting closer. My grandparents went with us for a few years when I was younger and my grandma would cook us breakfast every morning. When I got older, I was able to invite friends along, then after my senior year in high school I started going on my own trips with friends.
My mom and stepdad still go every year. They are there now and I will be joining them come Wednesday. Then my stepdad has to come back home Friday morning, so it'll just be me and my mom for the weekend. I'm so looking forward to just relaxing on the beach during the day with a nice cold beverage and then getting ready and dining at the wonderful seafood joints at night.
