Life Before E-mail...

I remember when we actually had to write letters to those far away that we wanted to talk to. The last time I wrote an actual letter was probably when I was like 12 or 13. We used to meet new friends at the beach every summer and since we didn't have cell phones or email addresses, we would all exchange actual home addresses and for weeks after our vacations we'd wait to receive that first letter. "Did you get one yet?" I kept all my pen pal letters in a Lisa Frank tin. (Lisa Frank was and still is the bomb shizz...I wish it were socially acceptable to carry Lisa Frank trapper keepers to work b/c I totally would.)

Today I couldn't live without email or text. I use both forms of communication atleast every minute of every day. But occasionally I will send a card. It's actually one of my favorite things to do. I love giving and receiving snail mail. So much so that I have a large box filled with mail "parafanalia"...address labels, holiday stickers, stamps, numerous personalized stationery, various versions of thank you cards, return addresses from friends, etc. And every snail mail card I've received I have stored somewhere in my apt. Invitations, birthday cards, thank you notes, random sweet notes from friends. I love it all. I have the most recent ones hanging on my bullentin boards.

Over at Kelly's Korner, she talks about Random Acts of Kindness. Snail mail is my favorite. If you know a friend has had bad day/week, get him/her a sweet card to cheer them up. I don't know if it's a Southern thing, but every celebration or tragedy should require some type of card. My grandmother taught me that. Births, Weddings, Birthday's, Death's, Accomplishments. It's something tangible we can hold on to and when we're feeling down we can always return to those comforting words and it will cheer us right up or atleast reassure us everything will be okay in the end.

loves,

What a terrific post!

You've given me inspiration for new ways to show random acts of kindness.
