tinder tales.

I've been working on this post for a while now.  compiling my best (err worst) tinder tales.

you all heard this tinder tale earlier this week.

if you follow me on twitter (@sweetbef), then you know i've been using the dating app Tinder.

if you're not familiar with Tinder...here is a little synopsis...it's connected via your facebook.  you like people clearly based on looks.  you swipe left if you're not interested in their appearance and swipe right if you are.  depending on my location, I would only get guys in a certain radius of me.  if you both swipe righ,t then you're matched and from there your love can blossom.

i feel comfortable telling you all about my experiences because for some reason, it makes me feel less shame than eHarmony or Match.

Sami suggested I do a blog post on my Tinder experiences.

oh man, dudes are weird and needy.

here are some things I've encountered in my experiences...

1. Your boyfriend might be on Tinder.

I've had a picture come up atleast three times where it was someone I knew wasn't single...because I knew his girlfriend.  Maybe the dudes are curious about what this app is and just forget to delete it,  but I feel like that's 9 out of 10 times NOT the case.  Ladies...check up on your man's smart phone apps.

2. Don't give out your phone number to a dude you've matched up with until you're absolutely certain he's not a freak.

I've exchanged numbers with several tinder cats and immediately regretted it.  1. "hey" is not an effective form of initial contact. 2. if I don't respond to your text and 5-10 minutes later you send another one...you need to learn restraint.  because you've officially turned me off.

3. Dear Dudes of Tinder, don't ask to be Facebook friends and then follow up with "Did you add me on Facebook, yet?" Because I will cut you from my life.

4. I once had a dude ask me the following questions...

- When was your last great kiss?
- Tell me something most people don't know about you?
- What's your best feature?
- What color are your eyes?

These were all asked before I had even responded to the lame "hey" initiator.

I've only been on ONE date through this whole adventure.  I keep holding out thinking I'll "meet" someone normal and cool.  so my track record is like -85%.  I'm not sure why I keep doing it.

I guess i'm an I'm an emotional cutter.

the double meet-up: a tinder tale.

if you're single these days, you've probably heard of  the new dating app, Tinder.

if not...a brief synopsis:  flip through photos of singles in radius of your current location and swipe left if you're not interested and swipe right if you are interested.  if you both swipe right, then you are matched and the love can blossom.

i've been swiping left and right since around september.  i've exchanged some numbers, been on dates (well, just one, but who's counting?), cancelled dates, blocked the crazy ones, flirtexted, etc.

this past thursday I had a "funny encounter" with one of my tinder matches that I thought you might all like to hear.

thursday night: meet up with my single gal pal, brooke downtown for some happy hour drinks.

I recently suggested she join tinder.  we were exchanging stories of our recent matches.  she mentioned one guy she's been messaging.  I recognized the name and looked on my tinder matches to find that we were matched and had exchanged some messages.  the last message sent about a week ago.

brooke mentioned this guy wanted to meet her out that night.  I was totally okay with that and assumed that since were in a small crowd of about 5, and since I hadn't messaged him in about a week that he wouldn't even remember me.

well...about the same time I'm telling her to ask him to meet us out, he messaged me "hey there :)" (side note: I have a love/hate relationship with dudes that use smiley's and/or emojis)

I didn't respond, but I let Brooke know he had messaged me and still told her to invite him out and that if anything it would be a hilarious story.  and let's be real...I hate a cockblock.

homie is trying to put all his eggs in one basket...I can't hate his single game play.  he has NO idea Brooke and I know each other.

he comes in the bar with 2 of his guy friends and introduces himself to Brooke.  I'm sitting next to another guy and girl who are in our group eating some bar food, looking at my phone.  she points me out, but I don't make any moves to show my face.  later, brooke excuses herself to the bathroom and he leans over to me and says "we were matched up on tinder. I thought this was an ambush."  I played dumb and told him "oh, no.  I don't ever check my tinder." *nervous laughs*

but it's not the fact that he was communicating me with brooke and I at the same time that concerned me.  my biggest concern was his outfit choice of the night.

thursday night temps in Greenville were around 35-40ish degrees.  this cat had on a white LINEN suit and khaki jacket.  1. who owns a linen suit?! 2. those that do own a linen suit, who would wear one in the winter times?

when brooke was using the restroom, this conversation happened:

me: "so, what's up with the suit? it's winter and you're wearing linen."
tinder: "well, i'm from montana..."
me: "no. then why would you even have a linen suit if you're from montana?!"
tinder: "but I love florida and the heat and I'm moving there in september"
me: "that doesn't make sense"...blank stare

it's too bad his outfit choice was hideous, because his face was really cute.

suprise parties are no joke.

there was a little suprise party for my best friend, sandi's 30th birthday.

and her reaction was the best thing I've ever witnessed.

months of planning.  making sure no detail went unnoticed.  because we knew how much sandi's attention to detail is impeccable, we wanted to make sure her night was just as special as if she had planned it herself.

it was the hardest secret to keep for over 3 months.  I was ready to bust!  my nerves before she arrived were shot!

we made SURE to have it the weekend before her birthday, because most of her celebrations are usually the weekend after.  so we figured having it the weekend before would be sure to throw her off just a little bit.

then we had to come up with the best way to get her to the party...and fast...because that little missy will put stuff on her calendar months in advance.  she's always on the move.

she is going to be a bridesmaid later this year, so I decided the best thing to do might be to invite her to a fake engagement party for the bride.  I immediately contacted the bride/friend, made sure that was okay with her, asked her to go ahead and text sandi so she would get it on her calendar before anything else came up, and let her know that an invite would follow.

I found a website that didn't have a minimum order requirement, so I was able to make the cutest "fake" engagement party invite and mailed it to her around the same time we mailed out her surprise party invites.  I even had a friend at work address it for me because I was afraid Sandi might recognize my handwriting.

around early december, sandi mentioned to me something about an "engagment party" she had in january...and then I knew we had her fooled.

everything else was a piece of cake, finding old baby pictures (thanks sandi for posting so many over the years to social media), her sister wanted to make sure the colors were pink and glitter. two of sandi's favorite things.  and her sister also made sure there were extra sweet treats to tie in with sandi's boutique, sugar.  her sister made sure everything was in place and ready to go.  she was the mastermind behind the entire shin-dig.

we prepared ourselves before the party of what her "genuine surprised face" might look like.  and she definitely gave us all a geniuely surprised reaction.  just watching her as she walked in, shocked with all of the people that showed up to celebrate her, made my heart smile.

so many people came out to the party to celebrate her milestone birthday. this girl is so loved by so many people. and i'm lucky to call her my "friend."

happy 30th birthday, sweet friend!  I love you so much and hope you have the best day!
