I'm pretty sure when Beanie Babies came out I was too old for them. But I still had several...I can remember my friend got the precious Princess Diana one and I was uber jealous.
Normally when you get stuffed animals that have tags, you're supposed to remove them for fear of choking. Obviously, I wouldn't chew on the tag like a small infant...but since these were collectors items you could NOT under ANY circumstances remove the tag or it would lose value.
So...you had to get the tag protectors.
Because if God forbid your tag got torn then your beanies value would go WAY down.
After doing some extensive research, I found that most of the beanie babies are selling on eBay for around $3.95...um...I think that's LESS than the original price.
On to Exhibit B:
The Holiday Barbie.
I got one every year for about 5 or 6 years. But my mother told me that I couldn't open the box or play with the Barbie because it would...again..."lose it's value."

My mother would place them neatly on the top shelf of my playroom to display. But one time, I grabbed one the boxes, opened the back and touched the Barbie's hair. Oops...that Barbie totally lost it's value now. So much for trying to sell that so I could retire at the age of 30.
After doing a little research on these suckers, I found that this little gem below is going for around $250 by some eBay sellers.

Were there any toys you had that you were jipped into thinking would be worth a pretty penny in the future?

Oh you want to know who was a beanie-baby-a-holic? ME!!! I probably had (wait, they are still rolling around my parents house) close to 100 not even kidding. I even got the Princess Diana one, and man did I feel cool!
I even collected those mini ones from McDonalds. Gross, I know.
That makes me sick that they are selling for less than I bought them for! Don't people realize how cool they were?!
I never got a holiday Barbie :( I feel deprived!
I had both of those things... and I now want to sell those barbies on ebay.. HOLLA! (and my holla I mean shh don't tell my mom)

I never got into the Beanie Baby craze, but I think I may have had one. I remember how crunk bitches would get over their beanie babies though.
And Barbies - I was too poor for a play room or collector edition. I just played with the bottom of the line wal-mart barbies and my cabbage patch dolls. I refuse to allow my mother to throw them away.
BAH! Those damn beanie babies! I wasn't really into them but I will admit I had a few. My friend's mom was so obsessed with getting them that at a baseball game they were giving them out and she kept sending me and my friend through a different line to get as many as we could. People were nuts during that era.
Oh gracious ... SO true - those holiday Barbies always had me enthralled!
So happy to have just stumbled across your fabulous blog. :)

Oh the Beanie Baby craze. My friends and I had them, as well as the holiday Barbies and I'm pretty sure they're still packed away in my parent's basement somewhere. So much for using them to pay off my student loans lol.
So glad I came across your blog!
